June 3: Global Running Day

Global Running Day

In 2026, Global Running Day falls on June 3 (first Wednesday in June).

A small way to take part

Go for a run or a brisk walk today β€” your body and mind will both thank you.

World Bicycle Day

World Bicycle Day puts an everyday machine in the spotlight on June 3. A bicycle can be a way to get to work or school, carry out an errand, or enjoy a neighborhood at a slower pace. The day recognizes cycling as transportation as well as recreation.

The United Nations General Assembly established World Bicycle Day in 2018, adopting the resolution on April 12 without a vote. The observance draws attention to the bicycle’s role in sustainable transportation and to making cycling part of transport planning.

Your route does not need a finish line. A short, familiar ride can be a good way to take part, while learning about safer streets is an option for people who do not cycle. Think about what would make an everyday trip easier: a connected bike lane, a secure place to park, or a bike in working order.

Ways to make it your own

  1. Choose a short route you know, check your bicycle, and follow local road and helmet rules.
  2. Try one ordinary errand by bicycle if the route and conditions work for you.
  3. Learn a basic maintenance skill from a local bike shop or community workshop.
  4. Look up your area’s cycling map and identify a quieter route you would like to try.
  5. Support a community bike repair or donation program; check what it needs before contributing.
